NYFW Trend Watch: Anoraks

L-R: Adam Lippes;Sally LaPointe; The Row

One of the biggest outerwear trends at NYFW AW 2014 was the easy to wear pull-over anorak  jacket. Paired with skirts or slouchy trousers, a number of designers elevated the piece with luxe fur and leather detailings, or kept it sporty with neoprene and drawstrings. Its utilitarian design sets it apart from its boho cousin, the poncho, and is reminiscent of a mature version of your grade school wind breaker that folded into a fanny pack (tell me you remember these too). After such a long winter it’s hard to get excited about outerwear, but the anorak could easily be put into rotation this spring and will help keep things fresh.
